Anyone who currently wants to pay with an EC card in Germany is probably looking into the tube at the moment. There are currently disruptions nationwide, as numerous customers report.
Since this morning, April 4th, there have apparently been disruptions and outages in digital banking in various stores nationwide. Card payments, withdrawals and online banking apparently do not work across Germany. Customers of the savings banks, Volks- and Raiffeisenbanken as well as Commerzbank are affected.
Many supermarkets and retailers reacted quickly to the problem and put up signs to warn customers, as an X-post from a customer shows. The affected stores include supermarket chains such as Lidl and Rewe.
Between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., more than 1,000 customers reported disruptions to the savings bank on the alletreibungs.de platform. The Volksbank has also been experiencing repeated disruptions since yesterday evening. According to a report in the Tagesschau, the problem has been resolved, at least at the Hessian savings banks. However, the cause of the disruption is unknown. It is also unclear whether the problems at other banks have already been resolved. Therefore, further disruptions could possibly occur in isolated cases.
