One year of Mastodon
It’s the anniversary of my move from Twitter, and I’m thinking about why I now feel so comfortable on Mastodon: Because I get there what I got on Twitter, which is increasingly laboriously put together from all the forced changes. I get insights into the everyday lives of people I know, everyday observations, often pointedly formulated, tips on things worth reading, serious world and local news, beautiful photos, interesting things – and only from channels that I have subscribed to and in chronological order . For example, crazy threads from people who are much, much smarter than me. (The Drukos are also very interesting here. Another plus point Mastodon.)
And once again I’m lucky that I’m not greeted with stupid, mood-ruining comments. In addition, in a completely un-Twitter way, the small instance on which I have my account, Fnordon, is hosted by someone I know personally and who I trust completely, both technically and personally.
It goes without saying that others want something completely different from a microblogging platform, for example something that they got on Twitter until a year ago (recommended content, a content community on topics that are important to them, professional colleagues). What I miss are certain people – who either continue to express themselves only on do) or are active on Bluesky, where I’m missing important features, which is again in the hands of a shady individual and for which you still need invitation codes.
