Vanillaware’s Unicorn Overlord Release Excludes PC Format
In a surprising move, popular game developer Vanillaware has announced that their highly acclaimed game, Unicorn Overlord, will not be released on PC. This decision has raised eyebrows in the gaming community, as the trend among developers and publishers has been to cater to as many formats as possible in order to maximize sales.
In an interview with game publisher Atlus on Destructoid, it was revealed that Vanillaware had made the decision to exclusively release Unicorn Overlord on consoles, with no plans to port it to PC in the near future. While many developers have embraced the PC format due to its open nature and wide reach, Vanillaware seems to be bucking the trend with this move.
“As a publisher, we also want to deliver it to PC owners, but under our agreement with Vanillaware, we will only release it on consoles. In other words, there are no plans to port it to PC at this time,” stated the interview.
While the reasons behind this decision were not explained, it is clear that Vanillaware has chosen to take a different path than many other developers when it comes to format support. Unicorn Overlord has received rave reviews from critics, making the absence of a PC version even more surprising to fans.
As the gaming industry continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see if more developers follow in Vanillaware’s footsteps and opt to focus on specific formats rather than trying to please everyone. Only time will tell if this strategy pays off for Vanillaware and if Unicorn Overlord will find success despite its exclusion of the PC format.
