An hour had been played when suddenly hope returned for Lausanne in the derby at Yverdon: Aymen Mahious had just missed what was probably the decisive 4-0 in front of the Lausanne goal. Almost in return, Mohamed Tijani was sent off with a yellow-red card after a hard penalty whistle. Noë Dussenne was left cold by the discussions. He shortened the score to 1:3.
Because 10 Yverdon players then defended in solidarity, the guests’ consolation goal was the last real highlight of a long, spectacular game. The second Lausanne goal didn’t want to come despite the final furor. Even though the Vaud derby in the no-man’s land of the table in German-speaking Switzerland is not exactly a street sweeper, the 3,800 fans in the Stade Municipal were treated to a wonderfully varied duel, at least in the first hour.
Carlos hits Karlo
After a quiet start, the home team really got going and scored three times between the 9th and 17th minutes. First Dimitrije Kamenovic rose highest after a cross. Then Kevin Carlos finished after Lausanne keeper Karlo Letica went down too early. Once again Carlos, this time with a header from a corner, brought about the early preliminary decision. With 12 goals this season, the Spaniard is number 2 in the league behind Lugano’s Zan Celar (13).
Ludovic Magnin’s team reacted vehemently. Kaly Sène’s goal to make it 1:3 (25th) was canceled due to offside. LS then complained about bad luck in a strange scene: Rares Ilie saw his header hit the post, and the following attempt to clear the ball by the Yverdon defense also landed on the same aluminum post.
Once again the Stade Municipal proved to be an impregnable fortress. Yverdon-Sport has been unbeaten at home for 5 games and has scored 37 of its 43 points at home. Only YB collected more points in front of home fans. In the table, Yverdon overtakes its Vaudois competitor, who had the same number of points before the game. With a 10-point lead over Barrageplatz, staying in the league is probably just a formality for Yverdon, who are strong at home.
This is how it continues
The Lausanne team opens the next Super League weekend on Friday with their home game against FC Basel. A day later, Yverdon will play in the next Vaud derby at Stade-Lausanne-Ouchy.
