Hellish morning on Italian roads with three serious accidents on the A22, A21 and A1. Three people died, over twenty were injured, while 100 vehicles were involved. All this would have occurred due to poor visibility: numerous traffic jams were reported in the fog.

Three serious accidents occurred on the morning of today 5 February, one on the A22, between the Reggiolo (Reggio Emilia) and Carpi (Modena) exits, one on the A1 and another on the A21 in the Manerbio area.

On the A22, several vehicles were involved in a pile-up which blocked traffic. According to what has been made known so far, the closures of the toll booths from the Mantua area to the Modena area have been ordered. The collision was apparently caused by fog.

According to initial information, the toll from a pile-up that occurred this morning along the A21, in the province of Brescia, is two dead and several injured.

The dynamics of the huge collision on the A22

According to what was announced, some people trapped between the sheets of the cars were rescued by the firefighters. The accident was apparently caused by two trucks which later caused a chain collision of several following cars.

The firefighters intervened with cranes from Modena and teams arrived from Carpi, Reggio Emilia, Mantua, Guastalla and Suzzara for a second accident at km 288, also southbound, shortly after which involved heavy vehicles. 118 and traffic police were also on site.

There were approximately one hundred vehicles involved in the accident and the collision was caused by poor visibility due to fog. Several people were injured, although none seriously. At the moment the count would be 25 people injured, of which two very serious codes. One of the two red codes was taken to the hospital in Baggiovara, in the Modena area, and one in Bologna.

The other injured, of medium severity, were taken by ambulances to the hospitals of Carpi, also in the Modena area, Mantua and Baggiovara. According to what is known so far, 9 people have a green code and were taken to the Modena Polyclinic, while the three yellow codes ended up in Baggiovara, Carpi and Mantua.

The accident on the A21 Turin-Brescia

Morning of chaos also along the A21 Turin-Brescia, between Pontevico and Manerbio, in the province of Brescia. A fire occurred in the direction of Brescia involving a car, while in the direction of Cremona there was a collision between heavy vehicles. There were two victims: husband and wife were stuck in the vehicles, while there were over 50 other people involved in the chain collision caused by the fog

Truck driver dies in a second accident on the A22

Due to traffic jams on the A22 and poor visibility due to fog, a truck driver died in another accident which occurred at 11.55 am near Modena. This morning the same stretch of road was affected by a huge pile-up which sent traffic into a tailspin. The accident involved two articulated vehicles and occurred at kilometer 308 heading north, in the municipality of Campogalliano. The Modena firefighters were on site, also with a crane, the traffic police and the 118 with an air ambulance.

Connection closed between A22 and A1 Milan-Naples in the Modena area

The connection with the A22 on the A1 Milan-Naples, in the Modena area, in both directions was also temporarily closed due to the Campogalliano accident. Autostrade advises motorists coming from Bologna and Reggio Emilia and heading towards Verona to exit at Modena Nord and take the ordinary road towards Carpi and then join the A22 towards Verona.

What happened on the A1 between Reggio Emilia and Modena

Another huge collision occurred on the A1 between Reggio Emilia and Modena. Firefighters and emergency vehicles responded to the scene at km 153 north. The accident also caused a series of huge traffic jams in the fog. Traffic also remains blocked on the A1.

The connection with the A22 on the A1 Milan-Naples, in the Modena area, in both directions is also temporarily closed. Autostrade advises users coming from Bologna and Reggio Emilia and heading towards Verona to exit at Modena Nord and take the ordinary road towards Carpi where they join the A22 towards Verona.
