7.5 magnitude earthquake in northern Peru

A powerful 7.5 magnitude earthquake was recorded in northern Peru, 42 km from the city of Barranca, at a depth of 112 km. This was reported by the US geological monitoring service Usgs. The earthquake occurred at 5.52 local time, 11.52 Italian time. Although the magnitude is extremely strong, the depth should have reduced the damage.
