Accidents, Stryn | Paraglider accident in Loen: Man killed

At 16.18 on Thursday afternoon, the emergency services received a report that a paraglider had gone into the rock wall in Loen in Stryn. The accident must have happened after takeoff.

“Witnesses to the accident reported that a paraglider had turned 180 degrees and gone into the rock face,” says operations manager at the West police district, Tatjana Knappen.

Air ambulance, rescue helicopter, fire brigade and police called out.

– From experience, we know that there is difficult terrain there, which is why both the air ambulance and the rescue helicopter were called in, says the operations manager.

Healthcare personnel and the fire service took the gondola up to the patient. But life was unfortunately not to be saved.

– The fire brigade and ambulance personnel arrived at the patient and cardiopulmonary resuscitation was performed on the spot, says Tatjana Knappen.

Knappen says that the deceased is a man in his 30s belonging to another police district.

The next of kin have been notified.

– It is too early to say anything about what may have happened, beyond what has been communicated earlier about the paraglider making a 180 degree turn into the rock wall shortly after takeoff. The police still have resources at the scene of the accident, and have started an investigation into the incident.
