Aga sent Rosenborg out of the NM / Rosenborg

Rosenborg and Fredrikstad met in the cup’s third round, for the first meeting between the clubs in twelve years. Over six thousand had turned up for the third round match, but despite a fantastic setting, the audience got to see a slightly awkward first half by both teams.

Both Rosenborg and Fredrikstad were imprecise before the break, and the pace was slow, but it was the home team that created the biggest chances. Only a few minutes had been played when Sander Tangvik had to go into action, and the RBK goalkeeper pulled off a huge save on the shot that came from close range!

Better tempos after the break

The second half was somewhat better from RBK’s side. Rosenborg was able to move the game higher up the field and started to produce chances. Both Frederiksen and Nelson had good shooting opportunities from 18-20 metres, but they had no powder in their boots to test the goalkeeper.

Then it was Fredrikstad’s turn, which created two huge opportunities in two minutes. First, a corner kick was headed onto the underside of the crossbar before the ball was blocked, and not long after, the home team could slide the ball into the goal from half a metre, but Pereira lunged forward and sacrificed himself on the line.

The punishment of his own

In terms of play, RBK took over more and more towards the end of the match, but symptomatically for the start of the season, there was a bit of lethality when approaching the opponent’s goal.

But there was one player from RBK who was supposed to show how to do it in front of goal – but unfortunately for the opponent this time. Oscar Aga came in from the bench, who is on loan from RBK to Fredrikstad. One minute into overtime, he got the opportunity at the back post and hammered in a half volley, into the roof of the net and Fredrikstad were in the lead.

Rosenborg would get one last chance to come back. Six minutes into overtime, Ole Sæter stepped up and headed the crossbar! The ball was eventually cleared and thus Rosenborg was out of the Norwegian championship at Fredrikstad Stadium.
