On Wednesday evening, Aleksander Aamodt Kilde (31) hosted the last recording in history of the popular talk show “Lindmo”.
There he could reveal that he and his girlfriend Mikaela Shiffrin (29) have become engaged.
The couple also shared the news in a joint Instagram post on Friday nightwith a smiling image accompanied by a number of emojis – including an engagement ring.
– Has been on the cards for a while
Kilde has recently gone through one of the toughest periods in his life, after the highly dramatic fall in the Wengen foothills in January.
Since the fall, the 31-year-old has undergone intensive and painful rehabilitation. Throughout the process, he had his new fiancee by his side:
– She has been very, very important. Absolutely essential really, together with my family, Kilde tells Nettavisen.
– I have actually thought that this is something that is very weird, but also a bit nice. It is in tough times that you realize who loves you and takes care of you, and you get very close to your family, he continues.
The way Shiffrin has helped him through the tough period made Kilde even more certain that it was the right decision.
– I have to say that it has been on the cards for a while. But after that experience there and the support I got from her, I’ve got answers to some of the questions I’ve been wondering about. And then I think that it’s just a matter of driving on, then, Kilde grins.
No wedding anytime soon
At the same time that Kilde revealed that he and Shiffrin are engaged, he also announced that he plans to return to the alpine slopes after the horror fall.
Completion of the rehabilitation and training will thus be the main focus for Kilde going forward.
The date for the wedding has therefore not been set yet.
– It’s too early. It will probably come when we have settled down, so it will probably be a few more years, smiles Kilde.
