Andrew Tate arrested in Romania: arrest warrant from Great Britain

Influencer Andrew Tate has been arrested again in Romania, with an arrest warrant issued by British authorities. This was reported by her spokeswoman, Mateea Petrescu, explaining that 37-year-old Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan Tate were arrested on Monday evening on charges of sexual assault in a British case dating back to 2012-2015. Also according to what the spokeswoman reported, the Bucharest Court of Appeal will today make a “crucial decision” on the execution of the warrants issued by the Westminster Magistrates’ Court in the United Kingdom.

Tate is also accused in a separate case in Romania, where he faces charges of rape, human trafficking and forming a criminal gang to exploit women. As part of this case he was arrested near Bucharest in December 2022 together with his brother Tristan and two Romanian women: Romanian prosecutors formally indicted all 4 in June 2023 and they denied the charges.

After being in prison, Tate was placed under house arrest, then in August 2023 he won an appeal, obtaining release from house arrest while awaiting trial. Four women had reported Tate to the British authorities for alleged sexual assault and physical abuse, but the Crown Prosecution Service decided not to prosecute him. The alleged victims then started crowdfunding to cover the legal costs they would incur in a civil lawsuit against Tate. «We gave our testimonies about the horrible acts of violence we suffered and waited for action to be taken. But 4 years later we were told that the UK authorities would not prosecute him,” the women say on their campaign page. “It is the only way we have left to ensure that he is held accountable for his actions,” they add.

Regarding the case against him in Romania, Andrew Tate, who has amassed 8.7 million followers on the social network silence him. He had previously been banned from several prominent social media platforms for expressing misogynistic views and inciting hatred. After their arrest in Romania, the Tate brothers were held for 3 months by the police before being transferred to house arrest; after their release they were restricted from remaining in the areas of the Municipality of Bucharest and the neighboring county of Ilfov. In January Tate won an appeal against the seizure of his assets by Romanian authorities, which were confiscated in the weeks following his arrest: Romanian authorities had seized 15 luxury cars, 14 designer watches and cash in various currencies with an estimated value of 3.6 million euros.
