Andy Murray he was eliminated from the Australian Open already in the first round. He was defeated by Tomas Echeverri (6:4, 6:2, 6:2). After the match, he himself admitted that this could be the last match he will play in Melbourne. Because of his weak form and parties, and because of the fact that he turns 37 on May 15.

He opened his soul in front of the journalists at the press conference. “There is definitely a chance that this is my last match in Australia. Most likely because of how the match itself unfolded and what was happening. While you are on the field, you try to control your emotions, to focus on points. Then when you get into a situation where you’re a point away from relegation, then you can’t believe it’s gone by so quickly,” Murray began.

He also pointed out that he no longer feels the same on the field as before. “Compared to the matches I played here last year, the feeling is completely different. I wish I had managed to involve the audience more in the match. I’m disappointed with the way I played and everything. A tough, really tough way to end” Murray concluded.

In the next round, Etcheverry will play against another experienced player, Gael Monfils (France). As he prepares for that match, the Briton will slowly pack his bags and head back home. It is expected that Murray will play all three remaining Grand Slams, Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the US Open, but after these words there is also a hint of early retirement…
