It is none other than the “Max Manus” star himself Aksel Hennie (48) who takes on the role of Jesus when Folketeateret will now stage “Jesus Christ Superstar”

Hennie is primarily known for his acting talent, and has built an impressive career through several major film productions both in Norway and abroad.

Now he takes the musical stage for the first time.

– I never thought I would ever do a musical, but when I got this offer, with the strong character and the music, it was very difficult to say no,” says Aksel in an interview with NRK Dagsrevyen and adds:

– Singing has always been important to me, but I’ve never had enough confidence to use it. It is definitely joy mixed with horror, but more joy than horror.

Hennie has captured a wide international audience, through Hollywood productions such as “The Martian” and “Hercules”.

In Norway, he has filled several iconic leading roles, such as in the successes “Headhunters” and “Max Manus”.

The production company Scenekvelder AS is behind the musical at Folketeateret. They are also behind the musicals “Miss Saigon”, “The Sound of Music” and “Annie”.

Modern classic

“Jesus Christ Superstar” is a modern classic created by British musical composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyricist Tim Rice.

The story of the last days of Jesus Christ has thrilled audiences for many years. The musical was first released as a studio album in 1970, and later developed into a theater production.

The production company Scenekvelder is proud to have the “Headhunters” star as the lead role in the musical and is looking forward to the premiere date on 30 August:
