Berlin. A solar storm could cause problems overnight from Friday to Saturday. But a nice surprise is also possible.
A so-called solar storm could cause problems with electronic communication on the night from Friday to Saturday. Multiple solar flares and coronal mass ejections (CMEs) triggered by explosions could result in a so-called level four geomagnetic storm, according to a warning from the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The highest level is five.
Possible consequences of this cosmic event According to the warning: “Geomagnetic storms can affect the infrastructure in low Earth orbit and on the Earth’s surface and may disrupt communications, the power grid, navigation, radio and satellite operations.” The responsible authority had warned the respective operators that these precautionary measures should be taken can meet.

Solar storms also increase the chance of northern lights
However, further solar flares could extend the geomagnetic storm throughout the weekend. They shoot charged particles towards the earth; when they hit the atmosphere, they cause turbulence, which can also have nice consequences. The chance of seeing the Northern Lights is particularly high on weekends. Particularly in northern Germany, it may be worthwhile to take a look at the (as clear as possible) sky towards the north next night.
