Writer Yudhistira ANM Massardi died on Tuesday (2/4). The sad news was conveyed through uploads by family members on social media, one of whom was musician Iga Massardi, his son.

He uploaded a photo of one palm holding the palm of another hand which appeared to be wearing an IV tube. The Bara Suara vocalist wrote “1954-2024” as the photo caption. This number refers to the year the father was born and died.

Kafka Massardi, as the child, also detailed the sad news on social media. He didn’t say much via tweets on X.

“Our father Yudhistira Mulyana bin Massardi died at 21.12 WIB at the Bekasi City Regional Hospital,” he wrote while laying out plans for his father’s funeral.

During his lifetime, Yudhistira Massardi was known as a writer who wrote many books, short stories, soap opera scripts, novels and poetry.

His written works began to be published when he was in junior high school, such as Aku Cinta Padamu, in Warta Minggu. At that time, Yudhistira Massardi was said to have often used the pen name Yan when publishing his writings.

He continued to do this until he won writing competitions, such as from DKJ through the play Wot Atawata Jembatan in 1977, then the novel Trying Not to Give Up (1980), a collection of Toothbrush Poems (1983).

He also achieved other awards and wins before, such as Arjuna Searching for Love, which was named the Best Reading for Teenagers in 1977 by the Main Book Foundation. He also released Arjuna Looking for Love II (1980).

Not only that, the two novels were also translated into Japanese by Noriaki Oshikawa and published in 1995 and 1996.

Apart from writing novels, poetry and short stories, Yudhistira Massardi has also written soap opera scripts, such as Kerikil Putih (1993), Ngidam (1993), Joni Garang (1994).

Yudhistira Massardi is reported to have stated that literature should be like dangdut music, namely works that should be able to reach as many people as possible. According to him, meaningful literary works can communicate with their readers.

Apart from publishing many literary works, Yudhistira was the editor of Le Laki magazine (1976-1978), Tempo magazine (1979-1981), Jakarta Jakarta magazine (1985-1987), Editor magazine (1988), and Gatra magazine.

Yudhistira Ardi Nugraha Moelyana Massardi was born in Karanganyar on February 28 1954. He now leaves behind his wife, Siska, and three children; Iga Massardi, Matatiya Taya, and Kafka Dikara.

Yudhistira Massardi’s body was buried at Pondok Pekayon Indah, South Bekasi.
