Funeral ribbon and minute’s silence: Inter mourns Brehme
After the death of soccer world champion Andreas Brehme, Inter Milan wants to remember its ex-player with a minute’s silence and a mourning ribbon. In the Champions League game against Atlético Madrid on Tuesday evening (9 p.m.), the team will wear mourning ribbon, as the Italian Serie A club announced. In addition, at Inter’s request, there will be a minute’s silence in memory of Brehme before the duel, the European Football Union Uefa announced. In addition to the Inter players, the referees will also wear black armbands during the game.
Born in Hamburg, Brehme played for Inter from 1988 to 1992. Together with his national team colleagues Lothar Matthäus and Jürgen Klinsmann, he became champion (1989) and UEFA Cup winner (1991) with the Nerazzurri. His former club said goodbye to him with emotional words. “Some of us are leaving,” it said on the club’s website.
