Ask health professionals about health on Student Health Day on 13 March

On the internet, you are constantly served advice, tips and miracle cures that will give us better health, but what do the professionals think? Tromsø’s students can find out on Student Health Day on Wednesday 13 March.

Many people search for health advice on social media and Google, but the answers you get are not necessarily based on research, professional expertise, or adapted to your needs. Kraft University Health Center will do something about this.

– The goal of the student health day is to have an event that is a counterweight to all the health advice that swirls around on social media, says Malin Kvenseth, head of department at Kraft University Health Center and prime mover for the student health day.

This is the first time that a separate student health day has been organised. The event is a collaboration between Samskipnaden, Tromsø municipality, Kraft sports center, UiT Norway’s Arctic University, Tvibit and Social Medicine Centre.

Medical help, quizzes and training tips

For those who attend, there will be competitions, quizzes, free food and lectures on everything from addiction, sleep and contraception to exercise and diet. Health nurses from Tromsø municipality must be able to provide, among other things, information about and self-testing for gonorrhea and chlamydia. There will also be a tour of the Kraft sports centre, and tips on how to create your own training programme.

On 13 March between 10:00 and 14:00 the general practitioners at Kraft, health nurses and student advisers have cleared the calendar. It is possible to book an appointment by calling 95 04 74 00.

– Tromsø students will have the opportunity to get to know the various student health services and talk to experts about sleep, contraception, exercise, diet and physical, mental and sexual health, says Malin Kvenseth, who hopes many students will find their way to Kraft on 13 March.

Kraft University Health Center is run by Tromsø municipality and is located on the campus of UiT Norway’s Arctic University. The health center contains a doctor’s office where all residents of the municipality can apply for a GP. It is co-located with the Kraft sports center.
