Atlético de Madrid beat Celta, 1-0, this Sunday (12/5), at home, at the Metropolitano, in the 36th round of the Spanish Championship. The Colchonero team had difficulty breaking through the Galicians’ block. Thus, the goal only came in the 39th minute of the second half, with Argentine De Paul. The triumph was Simeone’s 400th in charge of the Colchoneros.
With the good result, Atlético reaches 70 points, in fourth place, but still does not have a guaranteed position in the G4, as Bilbao, with 62 points, can still overtake them. Celta has 34 points, in 16th place and still at risk of relegation. After all, Cádiz, with 29 points, can still reach 37.
Atlético de Madrid only scores at the end
Atlético, as expected, was much more dangerous, but was stopped by Guaita’s good defenses in the first half. Despite the very defensive scheme, Celta also created their opportunities, but with less danger to Atletico’s goal. The second half came and Atleti remained more incisive. So much so that, despite the 0-0 score, they had 13 shots, compared to just three from Celta, who spent the final stage trying to sustain the excitement. And once again goalkeeper Guaita stood out with confident saves. When they had the ball, the visitors wasted their time (they had 43% possession).
In the final ten minutes, Atlético finally rented the attacking midfield and, in the 39th minute, the goal finally came. A corner taken by Koke from the left was rejected by Nùñez, but fell at the feet of De Paul outside the box. The Argentine adjusted and hit without a chance for Guaita.
