Jannik Sinner, number four in the world, qualified this Tuesday for the semi-finals of the Australian Open for the first time in his career, after defeating Russian Andrey Rublev in just three sets.
In the first Grand Slam tournament of the season, Sinner overcame the number five in the world hierarchy by 6-4, 7-6 (7) and 6-3, in a match that lasted two hours and 41 minutes, on Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne.
The Italian tennis player, who reaches the semi-finals of a ‘major’ for the second time in his career, after Wimbledon in 2023, will now face Novak Djokovic, world number one, holder of the trophy and who has already won the Australian Open for 10 times, after the Serbian beat the American Taylor Fritz in the quarter-finals.
