Baggott targeted by Bristol Rovers coach since December 2023

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Coach Bristol Rovers Matt Taylor is already targeting defenders Indonesian National team Elkan Baggott since being appointed as club coach on December 1, 2023.

This was revealed by Ipswich Town coach Kieran McKenna after deciding to loan Elkan Baggott to Bristol Rovers until the end of the season. McKenna said negotiations between Baggott and Matt Taylor had been going on for a long time.

“I think Elkan has been in contact with Bristol Rovers for some time, and to be honest, Matt Taylor has been very good in his approach. He came to the club not long after he was appointed Bristol manager and made it clear Elkan was a player he really wanted to take on,” said McKenna. quoted from TWTD.

Baggott’s move to Bristol Rovers only occurred on the last day of the Premier League half-season transfer window, Thursday (1/2). McKenna said this happened to anticipate problems if something happened to Baggott at the 2023 Asian Cup.

Bristol Rovers decided to wait for the 21 year old center back to return to England after strengthening the Indonesian national team in the 2023 Asian Cup.

“They are ready to wait for Elkan as long as he is at the Asian Cup, and then wait until the end of the transfer window, because we have to make sure we don’t have problems in the final moments,” said McKenna.

McKenna has rarely played Baggott this season. Baggott has only appeared in four Carabao Cup matches with Ipswich Town. McKenna hopes that the decision to loan him to Bristol Rover will help Baggott’s performance and career.

“We hope this is a good step. This is an opportunity for Elkan to play regularly. We think it was the right decision to keep him for the first half of the season,” said McKenna.

“We feel he has made really good progress over the last six months, and now, hopefully, he can progress, and apply some of that progress in the game at Bristol,” said McKenna.
