BankID will now become valid identification, through the new “Stø”

The BankID app has been given a new function: Now you should be able to show the app when you are asked for identification.

Of course, only at Posten and Vinmonopolet, i.e. when you pick up parcels or buy alcohol, but more people can follow.

– This is a simple and safe service for identifying oneself in physical situations. That means no more forgotten IDs, fewer passports and driving licenses going astray, and not least we close the door to fake IDs, says Mads Pedersen, product manager at BankID BankAxept in a press release.

New trademark: Stø

The BankID app has long had an “ID check” function, but this is something new.

In fact, it is also a new one trademarkas far as kode24 can understand: “Noise”.

“Two of Norway’s most used services are now joined by a completely new brand: Stø. Going forward, Stø will be introduced on several services from the company BankID BankAxept, both inside and outside the BankID app” reports stoe.no.

To use the function, you need to scan your passport or national ID card – we test it with ID cards:

  • We were first asked to first read some numbers from our ID card with the camera.
  • Then the BankID app asked us to place the card itself against our phone, for reading through NFC.
  • When we then choose to identify ourselves through the BankID app, a temporary QR code is generated, which can be scanned by those who want to identify us.

First pole and post, then more

– We have been involved in developing and testing the solution on both customer service representatives and customers, and have received very good feedback. It is perceived as a quick and safe identification process, and it is important for us to develop solutions in line with the customer’s needs and make it easier to pick up parcels when you only have your mobile at hand, says Kenneth Tjønndal Pettersen, press manager at Posten, in the press release.

Posten has been involved in the development of the service, and will therefore be, together with the Pole, the first to accept the identification.

– Last year we had 40 million customers and checked the identity of 4.4 million of them. We want to make it easy for our customers to be able to identify themselves – also digitally. At the same time, we must be absolutely sure that they are old enough. With digital ID from BankID, we can finally offer a safe and user-friendly solution, says managing director Elisabeth Hunter at Vinmonopolet.

But more can follow:

– Anyone who needs to ensure the customer’s identity or carry out an age check can use the service. At the start, the service from BankID is connected to the company’s system with a technical integration to carry out the control. In the long term, we have an ambition to further develop the service to increase data control for users and provide even greater value to businesses, says Pedersen in BankID BankAxept.
