First report from Friday, April 15th: Nyon – One day after the round of 16 games in the Europa League, the draw for the quarter-finals in the European club competition will take place in Nyon, Switzerland, this afternoon (1 p.m.). In this case, the last remaining team to hold the German flag high is Bayer Leverkusen.

What kind of crazy evening was that? In a real heart-stopping finale, it was Patrik Schick who kept Bayer Leverkusen’s triple chances alive. The factory team turned the game against Azerbaijan’s Qarabag Agdam around with an outstanding 3-2 win after being 2-0 down.
The same Schick became a celebrated hero with his brace in stoppage time. “This mentality is incredible. “I have rarely experienced something like that,” said midfield passer Granit Xhaka, drunk with joy afterwards. For his part, Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso spoke of a “special night in the BayArena that will be remembered for a long time.”

After the 2-2 draw in the first leg, Bayer Leverkusen is in the quarter-finals of the Europa League – and is therefore the only German team remaining. SC Freiburg, who had legitimate hopes of progressing to the next knockout round after their 1-0 first-leg win against West Ham United, suffered a 0-5 defeat in the second leg on the English island.
So which clubs could Bayer Leverkusen face in the round of the last eight teams? Atalanta Bergamo, AS Roma, Liverpool FC, Benfica Lisbon, AC Milan, Olympique Marseille and Freiburg’s previous opponents West Ham United are all in the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

Who will Bayer Leverkusen face? The Europa League draw process
This is how the draw works: Eight balls with the names of the quarter-finalists are in a large draw pot and are mixed up. The team drawn first has home advantage in the first leg against the team drawn second. This process is repeated for the remaining balls until all quarter-final pairings have been determined. In addition, the semi-finals and the final will be drawn this afternoon in Dublin. The quarter-final pairings of the Champions League will also be drawn in advance.
The games in the quarter-finals of the Europa League will be played in April. The first leg will take place on April 11th, the second leg a week later on April 18th. (aoe)
