- Bayer Leverkusen – Hoffenheim 2-1
In the 33rd minute, Maximilian Beier sent Hoffenheim into the lead. After Beier’s goal, everything was about Leverkusen.
The home team created enormous pressure, and after 72 minutes the entire BayArena shouted for a penalty when the ball went into the hands of a Hoffenheim defender. Match manager Deniz Aytekin was away to look at the VAR screen, but waved the game on.
Three minutes before the end, Borja Iglesias knocked the ball into the metal, but just minutes later Robert Andrich equalised. Well into overtime, Patrick Shick sent the home crowd into the sky.
After the match, Alonso was applauded by the home crowd. The victory comes less than a day after the Spaniard confirmed that he will remain at Bayer Leverkusen.
