He hasn’t kept the LHC goals for more than twenty years, but he is permanently at the Vaudoise Arena. And his nickname is Marsupilami. All Lausanne hockey fans will recognize Beat Kindler in this riddle. The original Lyssois defended the Lions’ cage with panache from 1991 to 2003. A favorite of the public, his number 21 was retired (no longer any Lausanne player will be able to wear it) and today his jersey hangs under the roof of the ice rink alongside those of Cristobal Huet, Claude Friederich, Gérard Dubi and Florian Conz.
Thursday evening, Beat Kindler was of course present to witness the great victory of the French-speaking Lions. As he took his place in the stands, his eyes looked up: “It’s an immense pride to see this jersey at the top. And twenty-one years after leaving the club, I still get asked for autographs. It’s crazy.”
