The oldest surfing competition in the world will maintain tradition.
Steve Dimopoulos, Australia’s Minister for Tourism, Sport and Events, announced last weekend that Bells Beach, in Victoria, will continue to host a stage of the Championship Tour until at least 2028.
“We are excited to confirm that one of the events for CT 2025 and beyond will be Bells Beach,” said Jessi Miley-Dyer, WSL Head of Sport. “Bells Beach occupies a revered place in the surfing world, embodying the spirit and legacy of the sport. Including it as a multi-year stop on the Tour reflects its iconic status and the profound impact it has had, and will continue to have, on surf culture .”
With its first competition in 1962, Bells Beach hosted the world‘s oldest surfing championship, and has been a regular fixture on Easter weekend annually on the CT calendar. It has been a Rip Curl event since 1973. In 1973, Rip Curl began sponsoring the event, raising its status worldwide. Over the years, “ringing the bell” at Bells Beach has become a career objective for every surfer who passes through the Tour.
The event in Bells Beach this year started on March 26th and can go until April 5th. The next call is scheduled for today, April 2nd, at 11:15 pm (Portugal time). The men’s and women’s semi-finals remain to be played. All information about the event can be found here.
