It was seen coming based on the previous singles and, in fact, Bodega With their third album, they are strong candidates for best indie-pop/guitar rock album and “classic” look of the season. They do it with fifteen songs concentrated in a total of forty minutes during which the combo has time to shoot in different directions, with bullets of well-known shapes within the scene.
Guitars in the foreground, a handful of distortions and plucks, good melodies, some choruses performed with apparent carelessness… all wrapped in a somewhat raw sound that increases the realism (and, incidentally, the charm) of the creations themselves. A kettle in which influences from the eighties jangle-pop of The Feelies or the first REM, along with The B’52s, or sacred groups of the seventies such as Television or Talking Heads, have a place, with an eye always on the new wave and without turning a blind eye to bits of shoegaze, post-punk, psychedelia and arty pose.
“Our Brand Could Be Yr Life” It is a vivid imaginary of influences and sounds, in which North Americans assimilate references without measure and vomit them back in the form of highly inspired compositions that will not disappoint fans of said names. A concept album about the current corporatist mentality of rock and, above all, a full-fledged tribute that results in a highly entertaining LP that you can return to again and again without fear of boredom, thanks to the majority of highlights that include that instant anthem that is “Tarkovsky”.
A giant step for the group led by Nikki Belfiglio, which leaves the feeling of having had the pleasure of creating the album that their instinct indicated, getting it right thanks to some remarkably high songs that do not lower intensity or border below minimum parameters quality.
