Bombing and shooting in Pakistan on election day – four police officers killed
A bomb has gone off and there has been shooting in northwest Pakistan, Reuters quotes police sources. Five police officers are said to have been killed, and nine injured. There are elections in the country on Thursday.
The bomb is said to have gone off in the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan, according to Al-Jazaeera.
The election in Pakistan has been characterized by violence, and the authorities have therefore deployed more than 650,000 personnel to strengthen security.
On Wednesday, at least 28 people were killed in two explosions outside the offices of political candidates in Baluchistan province, according to regional authorities.
The authorities have also closed the mobile network and closed the borders to the neighboring countries of Iran and Afghanistan to all traffic as a security measure.
