Chilean President Gabriel Boric Meets with Ambassador to Venezuela Following Controversy

The president of Chile, Gabriel Boric, recently held a meeting with the Chilean ambassador to Venezuela, Jaime Gazmuri, and the interim minister of Foreign Affairs, Gloria de la Fuente, at the La Moneda government palace in Santiago, Chile. The meeting comes in response to recent statements made by the Venezuelan Foreign Minister, Yván Gil, denying the existence of the transregional criminal organization “The Aragua Train.”

During the meeting, President Boric sought to gather detailed information about the current situation in Venezuela and evaluate measures to protect Chile’s interests and security. Boric had publicly criticized Gil’s denial of the existence of the criminal organization, describing it as irresponsible.

Following the backlash, Yván Gil later corrected his statement and acknowledged the existence of “The Aragua Train,” stating that Venezuelan authorities had taken action against the criminal gang.

The meeting between President Boric and the Chilean ambassador to Venezuela comes amidst another controversy involving the murder of former Venezuelan military officer Ronald Ojeda in Santiago. Chilean authorities have called for Venezuela’s cooperation in finding and bringing the suspects to justice.

The investigation into Ojeda’s murder is ongoing, with authorities looking for two Venezuelan citizens identified as involved in the crime. Venezuela’s attorney general has pledged collaboration in seeking justice for Ojeda’s death.

The body of Ronald Ojeda was found buried under a cement block in the south of Santiago days after he was reportedly taken from his home by individuals dressed in police uniforms.
