Heat wave

A heat wave You must only leave the country in the autumn, which starts on March 20th. The phenomenon has raised thermometers and caused cities to break temperature records for March at the end of summer, mainly in the Center-South. According to the meteorology company Climatempo, the forecast is that it will last until Wednesday (20). In some capitals, there may even be a sudden drop in temperature.

Heat waves are generated by atmospheric blockages caused by large high atmospheric pressure systems, according to Climatempo’s definition. The consequence of this is consecutive days with temperatures up to 5°C above average, which puts human health at risk.

Rio hit a new thermal sensation record this Sunday (17). Guaratiba, in the West Zone, registered 62.3ºC at 9:55 am. The number is higher than yesterday’s, which had been the record in the Rio Alert System historical series. Measurements began in 2014.

Rio de Janeiro is on yellow alert for a heat wave. This means that, according to the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet), temperatures should remain five degrees Celsius above average for two to three consecutive days.
