Marella Explorer 2 Makes a Return to Cuba

The British cruise ship, Marella Explorer 2, has once again docked in Cuba, this time in the port of Havana. Visitors were welcomed to the city, marking a significant step forward in the recovery of tourism on the Island, according to Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez.

The ship, belonging to Marella Cruises Restricted and part of the TUIGroup consortium fleet, has included Cuba in its routes through the Caribbean since March 2022. It first arrived in Cuba in December of last year and returned in January of the current year with 1,700 visitors. This move reflects the tourism sector’s adoption of winter months as an ideal period for the arrival of international tourism, establishing this stage as the “peak of tourism” each year.

The Marella Explorer 2, an adults-only ship with a capacity for more than two thousand passengers, offers various spa services, a club-casino, bars, and restaurants, among other luxuries. In 2023, it is scheduled to anchor several times in Cuba as part of a one-week itinerary called Flavors of the Caribbean.

Such visits typically enhance city tourism, allowing visitors to explore the main historical sites of Havana. To ensure a smooth experience for those who wish to explore the capital, an established tour guide is prepared, with planned locations for visitors to disembark and explore.

The return of Marella Explorer 2 to Cuba has been celebrated by the country, as it signifies a positive step for the recovery of tourism and the continued partnership with international cruise companies.
