BRUSSELS – Tension in the afternoon in Brussels during the demonstration, which brought together 8 thousand people, against the anti-Covid restrictions imposed by the Belgian government. According to reports from the newspaper Le Soir, scuffles broke out between the police and a group of demonstrators after some of them tried to break through the barrier to protect the offices of the institutions of the European Union. Protesters threw cans and firecrackers at the officers and the police responded with fire hydrants and tear gas. The Belgian newspaper writes that there have also been several arrests. The demonstration ended at 5pm.

Two weeks ago, the police were surprised by the scale of the mobilization against health restrictions that had brought together 35,000 people in the Belgian capital. Today it has therefore mobilized a greater number of riot officers in the European quarter that houses the EU institutions. Several streets were blocked with fences and barbed wire.
