(Fighting New Coronary Pneumonia) Cambodia’s Delta Variant Strain Infection Cases Rapidly Increase WHO Officials Express Concern
China News Agency, Phnom Penh, August 22 (Reporter Ouyang Kaiyu) In recent times, although the overall number of new coronavirus cases in Cambodia has decreased every day, the number of cases infected with the delta strain of the new coronavirus mutant virus has increased rapidly. WHO officials expressed concern about the current epidemic situation in the country.
According to a report from the Ministry of Health of Cambodia on the 22nd, 496 new confirmed cases of new coronary pneumonia were reported in the country that day, 575 new cases were cured and discharged, and 14 new cases died. Of the newly confirmed cases, 320 were community-transmitted infections and 176 were imported confirmed cases, most of them from Thailand. Up to now, a total of 89,000 cases have been diagnosed nationwide in Cambodia, a total of 85,000 cases have been cured, and a total of 1,792 cases have died.
The Ministry of Health of the country emphasized that Cambodia has added 163 new cases of delta new crown virus infection in the past two days. As of August 21, a total of 999 cases of Delta infection have been detected across Cambodia, distributed in 23 provinces and cities. The patients include foreigners entering the country, workers returning from Thailand and Vietnam, medical staff, civil servants, factory staff, bank staff, and students.
Among them, Phnom Penh became the “severely hit area” of the Delta epidemic. So far, 238 cases have been notified. The rapidly spreading epidemic in the city has caused many markets and neighborhoods to be blocked.
Li Ailan, the representative of the World Health Organization in Cambodia, expressed concern about the current situation of the epidemic. Li Ailan said that the Detar epidemic continues to spread and Cambodia is racing against the virus. It is not appropriate to relax control measures too quickly. At the same time, the public should not take the prevention and control of the epidemic lightly to prevent a large-scale outbreak of the epidemic.
Regarding the increase in imported delta cases from abroad, Li Ailan reminded that the delta virus originally imported by returning workers is spreading in the community, and Cambodian officials should continue to implement non-drug intervention measures. (End)
