According to a press release from MOL Ship Management, the ship’s operator, local salvage teams reported that the ship suffered a starboard tilt before sinking around 9 a.m. local time. Its final location is about 220 nautical miles (about 250 miles) from the Azores.

The Felicity Ace first caught fire in February as it was carrying Volkswagen Group cars from Europe to the United States. All 22 crew members on board were safely evacuated while fire crews flooded the boat with seawater in an attempt to quell the flames on board. As of a week ago, the blaze appeared to have ceased and the boat was scheduled to be towed to the Azores, where crews could dig deep to determine the cause of the fire.

This still leaves many owners wondering about the condition of their cars, which are now likely to be completely written off. When the news broke, Porsche issued a statement advising affected owners to contact their local dealer to determine next steps.
