In the fashion magazine “Vogue”, singer Céline Dion talks about her everyday life with stiff person syndrome.

Since Céline Dion first talked about her health problems in a video in December 2022, the singer has been quiet. Every sign of life from her makes fans happy – for example, that she can be seen on the May cover of the French fashion magazine “Vogue”.

At first glance, you can hardly see what is really going on in the 56-year-old’s life. The so-called stiff person syndrome makes it impossible for her to live a carefree everyday life. She provides an update in the current issue of the magazine.

Stiff Person Syndrome

Stiff person syndrome is a rare autoimmune disease of the central nervous system. The legs and back can cramp, which leads to severe pain. As a result, those affected are restricted in their movement and sometimes the body even freezes for a short time.

Shock and hope

The time after the diagnosis was not an easy one for Céline Dion. She often asked herself why this was happening to her and whether it was even her fault. She now knows: “Life doesn’t give you answers. You just have to live it.” But it’s not that simple.

Fighting the disease is a lot of work. The six-time Grammy winner still doesn’t lose hope. In an interview with the French “Vogue” she says: “I hope that through scientific research we will find a miracle cure – a way to cure. But until then I have to learn to live with it.”

A lot of work

Five days of physiotherapy per week and vocal training – step by step towards health. This is what Dion’s everyday life looks like now. She doesn’t want to be stopped, assures the Canadian. What helps her: the love and support of her family, her fans and her team. She is currently said to be living in seclusion in Las Vegas (USA) with her son René-Charles (23) and the twins Nelson and Eddy (13).

It’s hard to live from day to day. It’s hard, I work very hard and tomorrow will be even harder.

Céline Dion doesn’t know whether she will ever be able to perform and go on tour again. It’s been back and forth for years, sometimes she feels ready, sometimes not. She is convinced: “My body will tell me.” Still: “It’s hard to live from day to day. It’s hard, I work very hard and tomorrow will be even harder.”

The superstar was actually supposed to be on tour for the last few months – concerts in Zurich were also planned. Dion had to postpone this until an indefinite date due to her health. But the singer is convinced that what the illness can never take away from her is her passion, her dream, her persistence.

The fact that Céline Dion was able to do a photo shoot for the French “Vogue” makes her very happy: “Even though I was healthier and more beautiful at 30, I was never asked back then. I’m very proud that at 56 I can show off my beauty again.” By beauty she means what is inside her and continues: “Today I am a woman who feels strong and looks positively into the future. Day after day.”
