Central Government Sends 40 Tons of Rice to Residents Affected by Floods and Landslides in South Sulawesi

Luwu, sulselprov.go.id – The central government is paying great attention to the flood and landslide disasters that occurred in six districts in South Sulawesi (Sulsel). This concern was demonstrated through the assistance of 40 tons of rice which was sent to the South Sulawesi Flood and Landslide Emergency Response Main Post, at Andi Djemma Field, Belopa, Luwu, early Thursday morning, May 9 2024.

Head of the South Sulawesi Social Service, Abdul Malik Faisal, revealed that the assistance came from the Ministry of Social Affairs and Indonesian BUMN Groups such as BNI and Pupuk Indonesia.

“Thank God, early Thursday morning we received aid of 40 tons of rice from the central government, sourced from the Ministry of Social Affairs and Indonesian BUMN,” said Malik Faisal as the Aid Distribution Task Force.

Busyness can be seen at the Main Flood – Landslide Emergency Response Post in South Sulawesi. Rows of trucks filled Andi Djemma Field. Pick-up trucks were also seen neatly lined up in the front yard of the Andi Djemma main stage, where aid is stored which will be distributed to victims affected by the disaster in Luwu and Wajo Regencies.

“A total of 30 tons were dropped at the main post, while 10 tons were deliberately placed at Bua Airport because they would be transported using a helicopter belonging to the Indonesian Army to Latimojong District, because it cannot be accessed by land,” explained Malik.

Apart from assistance from the central government, said Malik, assistance has also been received from private parties such as PT Menara Sakti Makassar which directly delivered 200 boxes of instant noodles, 1 ton of rice and 200 boxes of mineral water.

It is known that the Main Command Post for Disaster Management at the South Sulawesi Province level is centered at Andi Djemma Field, Luwu Regency. Until now, there are still 16 villages in Latimojong District, Luwu, which cannot be accessed by land due to the breaking of three bridges leading to the area at the foot of the mountain.

Logistical assistance to meet the needs of thousands of residents in 16 villages was transported by helicopter from the TNI and Polri, as well as BNPB.

Malik Faisal revealed that up to the fifth day after the disaster that hit six regions in South Sulawesi, his party had distributed 23 tons of aid to affected residents, especially in Luwu Regency. With the presence of assistance from the central government, this assistance will be distributed immediately, especially in Latimojong District.

“God willing, this aid will be distributed soon and we have coordinated to immediately distribute this aid to other affected areas, including from other donors,” said Malik.

Previously at a press conference, Wednesday, May 8 2024, Malik Faisal said that during the emergency response process, 70 agencies had recorded donations through the main post in Belopa. These agencies include state agencies, private institutions and individuals.
