Aston Villa come into the game after a goalless draw with Everton before the Premier League’s winter break. As a result, the team lost second place in the league and fell to fourth, with the same 43 points as Manchester City and Arsenal.
In the FA Cup, the team debuted by beating Middlesbrough, from the second division, 1-0. The goal was scored by right-back Matty Cash in the 43rd minute of the second half.
