Children at Nova Iguaçu General Hospital receive a visit from the Easter bunny

March 25, 2024

Easter arrived early at the General Hospital of Nova Iguaçu (HGNI). The hospitalized children received a special afternoon this Monday (25). A character characterized as the Easter Bunny visited the pediatric ward, passing through the emergency room and wards, interacting with patients and companions, transforming the hospital routine of the little ones and their parents or companions. The children received gifts, interacted with the character, played games and took photos to keep as a souvenir of this special moment.

The action, carried out in celebration of Easter, on March 31, is a partnership between HGNI and medical students from Universidade Nova Iguaçu (UNIG), who are part of the Fernando Magalhães Social Academic Center.

The day of little Júlia de Lima, aged 8, started with some not very encouraging news. She had her discharge suspended by the HGNI medical team. What was a reason for sadness turned to joy when she received a visit from the Easter bunny. With a smile on her face, she proudly showed off the gifts she received.

“I thought this action was really cool. When she found out about the event, she was very happy and excited and this brings joy, as well as taking away the burden of hospitalization. This makes a big difference in the child’s life”, highlights nursing technician Priscila de Lima, 35 years old, Júlia’s mother.

Little Luara, 9 years old, was medically discharged this Monday. Before going home accompanied by her mother, saleswoman Carla Cristina Ferreira, 29, she took advantage of the Easter bunny’s visit and had reasons to leave the hospital even happier.

“It’s beautiful work. When I saw the rabbit coming, I told my daughter and she asked me not to leave, as she wanted to participate in this action. She was all emotional,” said Carla.

One of the creators of the action was Gabriela Del Prete Magalhães, 29 years old. A ninth-year medical student at UNIG, she says that activities like these are part of the Academic Center’s calendar of social actions to provide well-being to HGNI patients and employees.

“This affection certainly helps children heal. Much of what we bring to these projects of ours is, together with the medical side, providing more welcome and attention. It was incredible to see the smiles of the children taking photos with the Easter bunny”, concludes the academic.
