BOGOTÁ – Senator Gustavo Petro is the new president of Colombia based on the quick count made by the National Electoral Register in Bogota. It is the first time in Colombian history that a leader of the left assumes the highest office of the state. With the vote count of 97.06% of the seats, Petro together with his deputy France Marquez collected 10,984,247 votes (50.57%), while the challenger Rodolfo Hernßndez stood at 10,242,763 votes (47.16%) ).
