Comedian and TV star Joe Flaherty has died

The American-Canadian actor and comedian, Joe Flaherty, has died at the age of 82. It reports BBC.

Flaherty’s death was announced by his daughter Gudrun, who said that the death came after a “short period of illness”.

The Hollywood star is perhaps best known for his role as Harold Weir in “Freaks and Geeks” and from the comedy series “SCTV”.

In sorrow

In a statement, Gudrun says her father had an “unwavering passion for films from the 40s and 50s” that influenced his career.

She emphasizes that Flaherty was particularly excited about the work with “SCTV”.

– There were very few people who were as wise and funny when it came to comedy, teaching improvisation and the art of character work as Joe. In “SCTV” we called him the anchor. He was simply the funniest man in the room. I just loved him.

Hollywood star Adam Sandler (57) has also taken to Instagram to remember his former colleague. The duo played together in the comedy “Happy Gilmore”.

“Oh man. I adored Joe growing up. He always made me and my brother laugh. Count Floyd, Guy Caballero. Everything he did. He did so well as a border guard in “Stripes”. Couldn’t have been more fun to make him fuck with me on the golf course,” he initially writes under an Instagram post, and adds:

“The nicest guy in the world. Brilliant comedian. Really thoughtful. Perfect combo. I send lots of love to his children and thanks to Joe for all he gave us.”

Born in Pittsburgh, Flaherty got his start in comedy as part of the Chicago improv troupe, The Second City.
