Corinthians beats Nacional-PAR and takes a breather in the South American

Corinthians beat Nacional-PAR 2-0 this Tuesday (7) for the fourth round of the group stage of the South American Cup. At the Defensores del Chaco stadium, in Asunción, Paraguay, the goals were scored by Yuri Alberto, who opened the scoring with a beautiful header in the 30th minute of the second half, and Matheuzinho, who expanded in the final stoppage time with a crossed shot.

The game had moments of tension, with Tiago Caballero, from Nacional, being sent off after a mix-up with defender Hugo. Furthermore, Matheuzinho was injured in the goal attempt and had to be replaced shortly after finding the net.

Corinthians dominated the action, having 62% possession of the ball and finishing 10 times compared to Nacional’s seven. Goalkeeper Carlos Miguel made at least three good saves, preventing the Paraguayan team from scoring. On the other side, Antony Silva also worked hard, being decisive on some occasions and avoiding a more elastic score for Timão.

The result is important for Corinthians, who reach seven points and surpass Argentinos Juniors in Group F of the competition. Now António Oliveira’s team is second in the group, just one point behind Racing-URU who leads with eight points.
