Água Santa finished in the same position as this Sunday’s opponent, losing their place in the quarter-finals to Ponte Preta, who will face Palmeiras.

The game started off busy, but with little objective, played by Corinthians’ disjointed reserves. At 5 minutes, Água Santa asked the referee for a non-existent penalty. Corinthians acted dispersed, giving several spaces on their field for the home team to take advantage of. Água Santa continued to produce opportunities, but did not take advantage of them, especially with Bruno Xavier and Neilton. The team played against Corinthians, taking advantage of the lack of interaction between the black and white reserve team.
Água Santa continued to create chances and pose danger to Carlos Miguel. Luan Dias and Bruno Xavier had their chances, in one of them Hugo took it over the line and avoided the opening score. In stoppage time, at 46, Ryan received a second yellow card for a foul on Neilton and was sent off. Corinthians, with only Romero on the field in the team considered a starter, did little and were unable to equalize the game with Água Santa in the first 45 minutes.
The second half started with Corinthians trying to put pressure on Água Santa, but without success. The host withdrew its defensive lines a little and left the ball with Alvinegro. Água Santa’s marking under pressure worked and the team looked well placed on the field, without letting Corinthians play.
Luan Dias created other good chances, but stopped at Carlos Miguel and also at the linesman, who flagged offside in a clear wasted attempt. In the end, Corinthians arrived in two moves: Arthur Sousa advanced from the left and saved the goalkeeper. On the rebound, Giovane sent it out. Afterwards, the ball was raised in the area and Jael headed it out, sending it out.
Corinthians returns to the field on Thursday against São Bernardo do Campo, at their opponent’s home, in the Copa do Brasil.
