Cuba to use Brazilian money to improve airport infrastructure

Cuba has announced plans to use funds from Brazil to enhance the infrastructure and operations of multiple airports in the country. This collaboration was solidified through an agreement signed between the Cuban Company of Airports and Airport Services SA (ECASA) and Infraero, its Brazilian counterpart, at the II International Transport and Logistics Fair (FITL) held in Pabexpo.

Juan Carlos Quintana, the general director of ECASA, stated that the agreement aims to improve the conditions of Cuba’s international airports and optimize their operations. Although the specific airports benefiting from the Brazilian investment were not disclosed, it is anticipated that high-traffic terminals such as Havana, Varadero, Santa Clara, or Holguín may receive upgrades.

Aparecido Luiz da Silva, Infraero’s director of administration, emphasized that this partnership marks the initial step towards cooperation in air transport and tourism between Brazil and Cuba. The agreement includes the exchange of information and experiences in airport management, personnel training, infrastructure enhancements, technical support, and joint project development.

Both parties underscored the significance of this collaboration in bolstering relations between Cuba and Brazil in the aviation sector and fostering tourism development in both nations. Meanwhile, ongoing renovations at airports like Cayo Coco’s Jardines del Rey international airport are part of a comprehensive maintenance program to modernize services ahead of important events like the upcoming Tourism Fair (FitCuba 2024). These efforts involve refurbishing premises, updating signage, and improving passenger services to enhance visitor experiences.
