Cuban casino wheel breaks national and world records

by admin

The Giant casino wheel organized by Cuba broke national and world records today at a dance event, and now it is heading to the Guinness Records in the month of November.

The challenge on this occasion consisted of participating in two modalities: Record for the largest number of people in the entire country dancing at Ruedas de Casino simultaneously and Record for the largest number of Casino Wheels also in unison.

This project, led by the founder Luis Llamo Castillo, who is considered the Ambassador of Son in Cuba, was celebrated in greeting to the National Day of that genre – a mainstay and vanguard of music in the nation.

The World Record of Cuban Popular and Sports Dances was applauded by a large audience in La Piragua plaza, located on El Malecón in Havana.

More than 2,900 dancers participated at the same time throughout Cuba and 142 circles, and now they are preparing to go in search of the Guinness Record.

The event was sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, the National Council of Houses of Culture, Artex, and the National Institute of Sports, Culture, and Recreation.

The greatest connotation and significance of this unique artistic project lies in resuming, rescuing, and defending not only the authenticity of our culture but also human values. Dance, in particular, the Rueda de Casino, unites wills, engenders solidarity, empathy, discipline, a sense of belonging, as well as joy and optimism.

According to Llamo Castillo, the casino dancer envisions solutions beyond adversities, infecting everyone with his magical rhythm, always challenging destiny to the beat of the Son. The International Project “Retaking the Son Bailando Casino” in this way enhances the culture of this archipelago that throughout musical-dance history shows the roots of popular dances as a symbol of the most authentic values.
