During the warm-up, images were shown on the video cube of Müller fervently singing along to Major Tom. For Müller, the song is suitable for any – even a boozy – party. He was asked whether he was sure of the lyrics: “Absolutely, that’s a great song to sing along to – even if you don’t have anyone sitting down. If so, it would be even better.”

When Maximilian Mittelstädt scored the equalizer, the 80s hit “Major Tom” by Peter Schilling with the line “Completely detached from the earth” was played as the hit melody for the first time. 70,000 fans voted for it in an online petition. The DFB, which had nothing to do with the vote, promptly fulfilled the fan’s wish.

Müller didn’t even notice that when he was so happy on the pitch. “The second goal didn’t happen, we still have to work on it,” he said. “But in the end it doesn’t matter to us what music is played when the winning goal is scored. “Only the music of happiness is playing inside,” said the Munich native.
At the European Championships in the summer everything will be different again anyway. Before each game, each team can choose three songs for the program. When goals are scored, UEFA plays its own jingle. Müller wants to sing along as often as possible.
