Kanazawa City’s Kikugawa-cho Community Center has completed its own “Disaster Prevention Sugoroku,” which students can learn how to prepare for earthquakes and how to respond in the event of an earthquake, which they have been working on since 2023. A trial session was held at the same community center on the 23rd, and about 40 local parents and children had fun while learning disaster prevention knowledge. (Ken Wakisaka)
The community center created a disaster prevention Sugoroku for flood disasters in 2012. In fiscal 2013, residents took the lead in developing earthquake preparations and responses while receiving advice from experts such as Hideshige Asano, professor emeritus at Kanazawa University. Sugoroku provides local information such as “The roads in the Kikugawa area are narrow and there are many old townhouses, so there is a high risk of earthquakes.” “There is the Morimoto-Togashi fault zone under the Kikugawa area, and if it moves, an earthquake will occur.” were included in each square.
On this day, participating residents gathered around the finished product and learned about how to respond to earthquakes while enjoying Sugoroku. Haruna Nogawa, 10, a fourth-year student at Saisakura Elementary School in the city, said, “I’m glad I learned how to evacuate and how to prepare.” The completed Sugoroku will be distributed to all 2,150 households in the district in April.
