Actress and former MMA athlete Gina Carano is suing Disney and Lucasfilm after she was fired from the TV series “The Mandalorian”.
According to The Guardian she gets financial help from, among others, Elon Musk in her lawsuit against the giant companies.
Fired for Nazi comparison
The background to the firing is statements Carano has made in social media.
Among other things, Carano compared being a Republican to being a Jew in Nazi Germany in the 1940s.
The 41-year-old has also shared conspiracy theories about the American election in 2020 and made fun of people who used masks during the corona pandemic.
After a campaign was launched to have her removed from The Mandalorian, the former MMA star was fired from both The Mandalorian and her agency UTA.
– The truth is that I was hunted for everything I wrote and everything I published because I was not in line with what was the accepted narrative at the time, Carano wrote on X at the time.
Gets financial support from Musk
In the lawsuit, which was filed this week, Carano claims she has been harassed and defamed for holding right-wing views and for refusing to give in to Disney and Lucasfilm’s wishes.
Carano believes her male colleagues have made derogatory statements against Republicans with impunity.
Now she is demanding $75,000 for gender discrimination and unfair dismissal, and a judgment that gives her back her job in the TV series.
Disney reportedly asked Carano to meet with representatives from several LGBTQ+ groups, which she refused just before she was fired.
The lawsuit states that Disney and Lucasfilm have used bullying, discriminatory and revenge-motivated behaviour.
Last year, Elon Musk stated that he would help anyone who experienced discrimination from their employer because of something they wrote on X.
In a statement, X-top Joe Benarroch writes that they are now assisting Carano.
– As a sign of our commitment to freedom of expression, we are proud to provide financial support to Gina Carano’s lawsuit.
After she was fired, Carano has, among other things, played in “My son Hunter” – a Breitbart film about Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden.
Neither Disney nor Lucasfilm has yet commented on the lawsuit.
Carano first rose to prominence as an MMA fighter, winning her first seven fights in her career before suffering a knockout loss in her last fight against Cris Cyborg in 2009.
As an actress, she has appeared in films such as “Fast and the Furious 6” and “Deadpool”.
