Dominic Thiem am Montag in München
Here you can read the match in the live ticker.
The temperature difference compared to the last few days in Munich was almost 20 degrees when Dominic Thiem and Alejandro Moro Canas entered the Center Court at the MTTC Iphitos facility just before 5 p.m. The humidity had increased by 100 percent. In other words: Instead of summery weather in which Thiem had trained and Moro Canas had successfully qualified, it was now a very ordinary April day.
Dominic Thiem would have liked to have won the first set, after all he took the serve from Moro Canas, who was playing his first match ever at a tournament in the 250 category. But the Spaniard fought back, winning four games in a row. The 6:4 for the outsider came from a mistake by Dominic Thiem.
Thiem gives up the lead
A similar picture in the second round: Thiem took the lead again with a quick break, this time Moro Canas equalized in the eighth game. Immediately afterwards, Thiem missed two chances for another break, Moro Canas took the lead 5:4. Three mistakes from Thiem later, the Spaniard had three match points. And on the second, a forehand from Thiem ended up out of bounds.
The qualifier was able to celebrate his first success on the “big” ATP tour. Now it’s up to Taylor Fritz in the round of 16. And Dominic Thiem received a friendly farewell from the audience.
