Dominican Republic: small plane attempts emergency landing and crashes, 9 dead

by admin

A small Gulfstream plane with nine people on board crashed yesterday on the runway at Las Americas airport in Santo Domingo while attempting an emergency landing. This was reported by the daily Diario Libre. Citing a spokesperson for the fire department, the paper indicated that three crew members and six passengers, four adults and two minors, apparently of American nationality, were on board.

The Helidosa airline plane, it was learned, had taken off from La Isabela airport, near the Dominican capital, bound for Orlando, in the United States, but a few minutes after departure the pilot declared an emergency, announcing that he wanted to attempt a landing in the main airport of Las Americas, which however was not successful. In contact with the runway, the aircraft caught fire, making the intervention of the firefighters to rescue the passengers vain.
