A New York jury has ordered Donald Trump to pay $83.3 million in damages to E. Jean Carroll, who accused him of destroying her reputation while he was president by denying her allegations of sexual abuse in the 1990s.
Last year, another federal jury ordered Trump to pay Carroll five million dollars after finding him responsible for sexually assaulting her in the 1990s. Wall Street Journal. At the time, they also found him guilty of defaming her when he denied the abuse in 2022.
Carroll did not comment when he left the courthouse, writes the WSJ. Trump called the verdict ridiculous and said he would appeal:

The new sentence concerns statements Trump made during his term in the White House. He said Carroll, who is an author and former Elle columnist, fabricated the abuse to generate publicity for her new book.
Her lawyers asked for about $12 million to repair her reputation, an additional $12 million for emotional distress, plus unusually high damages intended to stop Trump’s disparaging comments about Carroll while the proceedings were ongoing:
