Dueto rice, developed by Epagri and Embrapa, was the most productive in a test in Itajaí – Epagri

SCSBRS 126 Dueto rice, developed by Epagri in partnership with Embrapa, showed significantly higher productivity than other cultivars, reaching 10,530.5 kg/ha in a test carried out in Itajaí. The test took place in a Technological Reference Unit (URT) on Irrigated Rice Cultivar Competition.

The test was carried out on March 12 at the URT located on the property of Humberto Sales Zermiani, in the rural community of Rio do Meio. URTs are rural properties selected by Epagri for the implementation of technologies and which will later serve as models for other farmers. In addition to SCSBRS 126 Dueto, the cultivars SCSBRS Tio Taka, SCS 116 Satoru, SCS 121 CL, SCS 122 Miúra and SCS 125 were sown for the test.

The productivity champion cultivar in the test is mainly recommended for regions with altitudes above 400 meters, subject to drops in temperature during the reproductive phase. It has a long cycle (142-144 days) and average productivity of 10,290 kg/ha. Paulo Roberto Ghislandi, rural extensionist at Epagri in Itajaí, reports that, “as this was a very hot summer, this cultivar obtained a differential advantage, as it is tolerant to extremes of temperature in the reproductive phase”.

Farmers who participated in the test event learned about technologies for controlling rice weeds

The rice SCSBRS 126 Dueto It can also be cultivated in the lower regions of Santa Catarina, “as long as producers follow the specific technical guidelines for this cultivar, such as adequate density and nitrogen fertilization, among others”, warns the extension agent. He states that, in this way, it is possible to mitigate the cultivar’s susceptibility to lodging when at low altitudes. Dueto is suitable for processing as white and parboiled rice.

During the event, researchers from the Epagri Experimental Station in Itajaí, Marcos Lima Campos do Vale and José Alberto Noldin, also presented technologies for controlling weeds in rice, both in the off-season and during the harvest. Researcher Alexander de Andrade presented information about the SCSBRS 126 Dueto cultivar.
