Since 1922, “Mother’s Day” is celebrated every May 10 in Mexico. For this reason, Mariel Colón, Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán’s lawyer, sent a congratulatory message to Emma Coronel, wife of the Sinaloa boss with whom she maintains a well-known friendship.

Through her Instagram account, Emma Coronel shared a story in which she announced the gift she received last Friday from Mariel Colón, a lawyer who represented her and ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán in the United States (USA). .

The gift that Coronel had in his hands was not ostentatious, but it highlighted the close closeness he has with the lawyer originally from Puerto Rico. It was a box of strawberries covered with chocolate, accompanied by a greeting card in which Mariel Colón, in addition to congratulating her for being the mother of two little twin girls, showed her the affection he has for her. The message sent was the following:

“Dear friend. Happy mothers day. You are a very special mother and friend and I appreciate you very much. I love you very much. -Mariel Colón”

“Good day! You are an excellent mother and fighter and your little treasures are proud to be your daughters,” wrote the Puerto Rican lawyer in reference to Emaly and María Joaquina, the twins that Emma Coronel had with ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán during her marriage.

Currently, the daughters of the former leader of the Sinaloa Cartel are 12 years old, while Emma Coronel is 34 (she was born on July 2, 1989 in California, United States, although she also has American nationality).

Since Emma Coronel was released from prison in September of last year (after serving two and a half years behind bars), she has shared the relationship she has with her twins on her Instagram account. In February of this year, the former beauty queen published a letter that her daughter María Joaquina wrote to her, in which she thanked her for being her mother.

“I want to say thank you for everything, for giving me a roof over my head, for feeding me, for taking care of me and, above all, for loving me and always being there with me,” the letter reads at the beginning.

While Emma Coronel has had the opportunity to share more time with her daughters, ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán has had to suffer their separation. Between 2018 and 2019, his trial was held in the US on charges related to drug trafficking and money laundering. During the hearings held in New York, Emaly and María Joaquina were present, although he could only see them from a distance.

Since then, the former leader of the Sinaloa Cartel has not seen his twins again, which is why he has repeatedly asked Judge Brian Cogan to grant him permission to see them in prison, a request that has not been approved so far.

The last request was made on March 20, when ‘El Chapo’ asked Judge Cogan to see his family. “I ask you to please authorize (Emma Coronel) to visit me and bring my daughters, given that they can only visit me when they have school vacations, since they study in Mexico,” reads the letter presented in court. of New York District.

In mid-April it was announced that Judge Cogan denied the request made by ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán, so he will have to remain in the ADX Florence prison (where he is serving a life sentence) away from his twins.
